An incredible old-world city, Corfu Town wears a gorgeous Venetian façade infused with other European and British influences that encompass a rich, modern Greek soul. The impact on architecture and culture from Ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine to Venetian, British and French is apparent throughout the streets and lends the vibrant city its particular flavor. The city is lively and swarming with shops selling everything from religious ornaments to brightly colored linens flapping in the wind from shop doorways.
Once leaving the elegant town of Corfu, the rest of the island will cast a spell on you with its unspoiled beaches, deserted coves, tree-clad mountains, velvety green valleys dotted with cypress trees, olive groves and tiny hamlets nestled against forgotten hills. Lively beachfront resorts boasting British remnants such as rowdy English Pubs and large hotels do crowd much of the island’s east coast spanning north and south. However, these popular and homogenous destinations can easily be avoided and you can allow Corfiot hospitality and the rest of the lush, fertile island seduce you time and again.

GREECE-CORFU
- "Corfu offers not only the pleasures of its many beaches but also the exceptional interest of a crossroads of history..." Henry Kamm, NYTimes
- "You will stumble upon winding roads and charming villages where you might come across the best pastichio (Greek lasagna) you will ever taste..." Athena Lamberis, BootsnAll Travel
- "There's Corfu the coast, Corfu the town, and Corfu the island, and they don't necessarily appeal to the same vacationers. Corfu the coast lures those who want to escape civilization and head for the water - whether an undeveloped little beach, with a simple taverna and some rooms to rent, or a spectacular resort. Then there's the more cosmopolitan Corfu town, with its distinctive layers of Greek, Italian, French, and British elements. Finally, there's a third and little-known Corfu, the interior with its lush vegetation and gentle slopes, modest villages and farms, and countless olive and fruit trees. (It should also be admitted that there's now a fourth Corfu - rather tacky beach resorts crowded with 'package tourists' from Western Europe who sometimes can be a bit raucous. We prefer to think that our readers will know enough to avoid this Corfu.)" frommers.com
- "...watching the sea turn to silver as evening descended, we all agreed that Corfu doesn't feel like any other Greek island. Perhaps the key is that, the Ottomans never gained a foothold here. There is no Turkish influence in its food or its culture. Greek is spoken with an Italian lilt and even some Italian words (bambini, for instance) have survived in the local tongue. Identity crisis notwithstanding, all four of us were so charmed by this beguiling island that we have booked to return this June - and you can't ask for a better recommendation than that." Stephen Pritchard, Guardian Unlimited, Sunday March 20, 2005
