| The Cottage is less than four miles (6 km) from the magnificent 13th-century Bastide town Monpazier, a real town with real grocery stores
and bakeries but one that is also exceptionally culturally-dynamic (art galleries, craft fairs etc). Many pearls of the Dordogne, the Lot, and the Lot and Garonne regions are within easy day-trip reach: Sarlat – beautiful little city built from honey-toned “blond stone,” (the first restoration project of France's first Minister of Culture!) is just 35 minutes away; even closer are Beynac, La Roque Gageac and Domme with their breathtaking views of the meandering Dordogne River. If you want to drive farther afield, visit the extraordinary site of Rocamadour, the second most frequented pilgrimage destination in France after Mont St.Michel. And don't forget that many travelers come to this area for the cuisine alone!
"The Dordogne area of France is a wonderful place to vacation; much less 'touristy' than many others....we heartily recommend this trip!!!!...There was always another adventure to find! This area of France felt calmer, quieter than others to which we have travelled. We loved visiting the prehistoric cave at Font de Gaume and the Museum of Prehistory at Les Eyzies. We loved that the land was covered with working farms. We visited Sarlat, the nearest town, Monpazier, Chateau Castelnaud, the Gardens Du Manoir D'Eyrignac, and more! The food was wonderful" Ellen W.
