MAISON A LA FALAISE, FRANCE - DORDOGNE

Besides being in one of the very best spots of the region, you are perfectly situated for day trips. In La Roque Gageac, you are less than 10 kilometers southwest of Sarlat, with its superb scenery and shopping. In addition, the other legendary golden stone villages of Dordogne including Monpazier and Domme, are all within easy day trip range. Just a little further afield are the world-famous prehistoric caves of Lascaux, and throughout this whole region, castles, chateaux and important historical museums abound. A visit to the nearby regions of Lot and the Garonne is within day trip range as well. Combine the rich sightseeing with the reputation of the Perigord for one of the finest cuisines in all of France and you have a vacation you will never forget.
  • From a recent visitor: " We used less than one tank of gas in our rental car - everything was so close - we loved the caves of Lascaux, Josephine Bakers chateau, Domme, the river everyday - if we could have afforded it - the balloons that went over our little house looked wonderful...we followed the road that went out behind the town and discovered a short cut to Sarlat - only about 4 km the markets were great."
  • "There are several little villages nearby if one likes walking - Cenac has a larger grocery store for supplies not available directly in La Roque. There are daily markets in the area and readily available tourist materials listing the schedules. I would definitely recommend getting to Sarlat and Les Eyzie Caves. Castelnaud is close and is an interesting old fortified castle. Sarlat has a big market on Saturdays which I found too crowded but a weekday offers a clearer view of this beautiful old city."
